The Competing Conflict Style

If competing is your style, you meet a disagreement head on. You know what you think, you say it quickly, and you keep making your case until the question is settled. Your partner never has to guess where you stand.

That is the strength. Problems do not sit and grow, decisions get made, and in a real pinch you are the one who acts. The cost is that a discussion can start to feel like a contest. A quieter partner may stop offering their view because they expect to lose, and you can end up right and lonely.

Making up tends to be quick for you. Once the point is settled, you are ready to move on, often before your partner is.

What helps: ask one question before making your second point, and repeat back what you heard. After an argument, check that your partner has finished too, not only you. Winning matters less than both of you still wanting to talk tomorrow.
