Avoidant attachment style
People with an avoidant style prize independence and are good at looking after themselves. They tend to stay calm under pressure and give a partner plenty of room to be their own person.
In a relationship this can show up as needing time alone to recharge, preferring to solve problems privately, or feeling crowded when emotions run high. Stepping back is usually a way of staying steady, not a sign of caring less, though it can look like distance from the other side.
What helps: tell your partner when you need space and when you will be back. "I need an hour, then let's talk" keeps the door open. Try sharing one small feeling before it is fully worked out. A partner can help by not chasing during a pause and by keeping requests specific.
Closeness often feels easier in small, regular doses than in big emotional conversations, so find the doses that suit you both.
Styles can shift over time, and feeling trusted with your independence tends to make closeness easier.
